Pharmacological treatment of cancer pain and opioid induced nausea and vomiting

Online survey and comparison with current guidelines.

Pain, drug-induced nausea and vomiting are common symptoms in cancer patients. Researchers used an online questionnaire to survey the choice of medication among doctors in palliative care. 240 physisians from Europe took part in the survey. The analysis of the data emphasises the need for evidence-based recommendations for the selection of drugs for the treatment of pain, nausea and vomiting in palliative care. Dr Gudrun Kreye from the Division of Internal Medicine 2 at Krems University Hospital is co-author of the open access publication, which has been published in the journal "Supportive Care in Cancer".
