The patient living with the deer

the special charm of home care visits in palliative care described in a case report

Recent publication

The case report published by private lecturer Dr Gudrun Kreye in the journal "Annals of palliative medicine" underlines the importance of mobile palliative care teams that enable patients to remain at home at the end of their lives. Patients decide against being treated in hospitals and stay at home for a variety of reasons. Palliative care teams ensure that patients' needs are met at home in the best possible way. For the multi-professional teams, this care at home is a special challenge; on the other hand, it allows them to have different perspectives on the patients. The case describes a patient who lived with a special pet, a deer, and shows vicariously how important it was for the patient himself, for his relatives and for his animal to be at home and to be able to die at home. The work highlights an excerpt from the diverse and demanding tasks of the mobile palliative teams.
