High-Volume Liposuction in Lipedema Patients

Effects on Serum Vitamin D

Forschungsimpulse über ein Seed Funding finanziert.

The Division of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the KL University Hospital in St. Pölten examined serum vitamin D levels in 213 patients before and after liposuction. Vitamin D is stored in fat cells and Vitamin D serum levels are related to BMI. The data analysed showed a change due to liposuction, but this seemed to be independent of BMI and the amount of fat removed. The results show that people are at increased risk of vitamin D deficiency after liposuction, which is relatively easy to diagnose. Thanks to KL's open access funding, the study was published freely accessible in the Journal of Clinical Medicine. It was funded by seed funding, an instrument of the Forschungsimpulse measurement.
