Investigation on the physical dose filtered by linear energy transfer

...  for treatment plan evaluation in carbon ion therapy

Recent publication

Carbon ion radiation therapy seems to be less successful with large tumours than with small tumours. Researchers have therefore tried to introduce a new parameter for calculating the radiation dose to achieve a better treatment result even for large tumours. In their study published in the journal "Medical Physics" Open Access, they show that the parameter is practicable and that the applied methodology is suitable for further studies. MedAustron in Wiener Neustadt, a KL teaching and research site, was instrumental in the work, as were the two professors of the KL Department of General and Translational Oncology and Haematology Prof Dr Piero Fossati, MD and Prof and private lecturer DI Markus Stock, PhD.
